Project Overview

Overview Image

In 2024 the Benalla community received a brand new police station, with a stone facade as the centrepiece of the building. Melbourne Stone Construction installed the facade by hand using granite sourced from the local Strathbogie region.

The project was delivered on time, and the stonework now stands as the defining feature of the new building.

Design Approach

Using local Strathbogie granite connected the new station to its regional setting and gave a civic building the presence and durability it calls for. Granite’s strength and resistance to weather make it well suited to a facade built to serve the community for generations.

The facade was built from 200mm Strathbogie granite, with every stone placed by hand by the Melbourne Stone Construction team. Careful planning and craftsmanship meant the facade was completed on schedule without compromising on finish.
